Did it work?

It looks like a Phaeton!

Hmm. It still looks like a Passat and I really suck on the whole styling questions.
Hey it looks pretty good to me, the finish is pretty shiny. What did you do? Wash/wax or more? (polishing compound etc)

It's not ugly at all, but it does not give me any type of fizz. Maybe paint the lower gray sections, but otherwise it's a snooze-mobile.

the brick reflection off the hood looks like dust in smaller sizes. I like the color though. 1.8T/5M?

Looks a tad underexposed, crop is a tad close on the drivers side. But the spirit is there.

it was polished and waxed, trying to prep it for sale. first attempt using a polisher, instead of by hand. Sorta sucked at that though.

indeed it is a 1.8t/5m. Yeah, when looking at them later, i thought the same thing about the brick. Other than a more profile shot, not sure how to deal with it.

the lower grey is sort of a rubber/plastic thing. painting it would be a pain. Totally agree that it looks like the snooze mobile, but drives well. was prepping it for sale.

i'll take that as a compliment. :)

thanks for the feedback!

looking closer it is obviously just reflection, but that was my first instinct. Next time you want some beauty shots put those hubcaps on so the VW logo is correct and not upside down too!

lol. Maybe i was being subversive/ironic. who tries to make a passat look good anyways? (agreed though. was just dicking around with the studio lighting, i didn't really pay enough attention to the car).

haha lol. It is funny because I manage alot of automotive advertising and used to wear the hat of art and creative director. Being swamped at work I didnt even think you were being a funny guy :)
Carry on...

Was hoping I picked up on the direction you were going with that. And I'm an idiot, by driver's side I clearly meant the left side of the picture...

Truth is, i secretly want to make an automotive calendar. but with all boring/average cars from a certain model year, in super car type poses. wasn't sure if i wanted the cars dirty or clean, in good shape or rust buckets, or somehow just wrong. I had this car lying around that i needed to sell, so i figured it would be a good test to see what i'd want. so it was a weird trying to care about how it looks, yet not trying to care how it looks moment. And since i didn't have much experience working with studio lighting, this seemed like a good test.

excellent. so what i need is more pretty brick background then. or maybe take the picture in daylight too.

Yeah, there is an art to using an electric wheel for polishing. I've always had better luck by hand, with the exception of a 'real' body tech watching what I was doing. Then it turned out awesome!
